Our annual 11-a-side Invitation Tournament in 2006 took place on Sunday 21st May on a miserably damp day with drizzle and rain during the competition but fortunately the heavy rain that had been forecast held off until the last game had been played. Teams taking part this year were one team from Wallington Little League, two of our own and one from Addington Palace F.C. who were invited because some of the Little Leagues who normally take part in this event were unable this year to send teams.
The four teams played each other twice in the two groups as detailed below, after Group A games had been completed a second draw took place as shown in Group B. This, we thought, would add more interest to the event and as it turned out it did have an affect on the outcome. If the teams had played in only one group then Wallington would have been the winners by one point from our ‘A’ team but by including the scores from the second round the eventual winners were our ‘B’ team who really woke up in these latter games winning all their games but our ‘A’ team still occupied the second spot and thus Wallington were demoted to third place.
Our special thanks go to the Addington Palace team for stepping in at the last moment to make up the numbers and it should be noted that the Wallington team included some younger players.
All four teams displayed a high level of skill and team work and the friendliness and sportsmanship between the teams was a great credit to their managers. There were no high scoring games and the fact four of the twelve matches were drawn shows that the four teams were all fairly equal in ability.
Unfortunately the extremely poor weather conditions did not permit the taking of photographs and those shown below are from the 2005 event.
In 2007 the bad weather conditions part way through the season resulted in a back-log of events and we simply did not have a spare day on which to arrange this tournament but we are hopeful and optimistic for the future.
