New Addington Little League Football

Anniversary Matches:

These two matches are an annual curtain raiser to the league season and are the only games played on the opening day. Academy teams compete for the Anniversary Trophy while the older boys in the Premier league play for the Midland Bank (H.S.B.C.) Shield.

The players in all four teams are those boys who were registered as team players at the end of the previous season, including boys who are too old to continue playing this season. This season’s ‘new’ players only take part when necessary to make up team numbers.

In both matches the League Champions from the previous season play the Cup Winners but in cases where one team has won both the League Championship and the Cup Final their opponents are the runners-up from the league competition.

Last season the Academy League Championship was won by Cubs and the Cup Final was won by Terriers. The Anniversary match between these two teams was an end-to-end game with some very good passing moves by all the players. The match was a very close fought encounter with the final score line being Cubs 5 - Terriers 3.

In the Premier League Colts were dominant last season winning all twenty of their league games with Arrows as the runners-up and these two teams met in the Cup Final with Colts again coming out on top. So the Anniversary match promised to be a very tight game and at half-time Colts were ahead by one goal which resulted from a ball which was hopefully lobbed into the Arrows goal area when the goalkeeper was forward from his goal line and unfortunately for him the ball passed over his head and into the empty goal. At this stage Arrows were still doing well and in with a shout but a second Colts goal after the break appeared to have an unsettling affect on the Arrows team and although most of the players continued to give their all Colts were again unstoppable with the final score being an 8 - 0 win.

Photo’s of the two winning teams are shown below.
