New Addington Little League Football

Anniversary Matches:

These two matches are an annual curtain raiser to the league season and are the only games played on the opening day. Academy teams compete for the Anniversary Cup while the older boys in the Premier league play for the Midland Bank (H.S.B.C.) Shield.

The players in all four teams are those boys who were registered as team players at the end of the previous season, including boys who are too old to continue playing this season. This season’s ‘new’ players only take part when necessary to make up team numbers.

In both matches the League Champions from the previous season play the Cup Winners but in cases where one team has won both the League Championship and the Cup Final their opponents are the runners-up from the league competition.

Academy League - The Anniversary Cup:

This year (2007) the Academy event involved three teams, Cubs who were last season’s League Champions and Terriers & Tigers who shared the Challenge Cup. In the first of the three matches Cubs decisively beat Tigers 4 - 0 but were then, in turn, defeated by Terriers 1 - 0 in a very close match. Terriers then went on to win the last match 2 - 0 against Tigers thus, for the first time in the history of the event taking the Anniversary Cup.

Premier League - The H.S.B.C. Shield:

This year (2007) Eagles were in this event for the fourth consecutive season and Lions for the second time in three years. This was a very close and exciting game with Eagles probably slightly the better team in the opening stages with their excellent inter-passing play producing a three goal lead. But Lions were not to be outdone and came back into the game quite strongly scoring two goals of their own, however despite exerting great pressure late in the game Lions were unable to get the equalising goal so Eagles repeated their 2005 success against the same opponents. Both teams were a credit to themselves and their managers in providing a very entertaining match.
