In 2007 the Little League National Executive decided to introduce, on a trial basis, a National 7-a-side competition for players aged under 10 years. The event proved to be a success and it appears that it will now be repeated every year on a regular basis.
In 2007/08 Paul Roberts and Jack Corps, managers of our Comets team, undertook to select and train players from the Academy teams to make up a representative squad and this year the boys chosen were: Brad Barnes & Freddie Rawlinson (Comets), Harrison Bryant, Malachi Gooden, Matthew Hollis & Joshua Reid (Cubs), Clayton Ryan (Hawks), Nathan Dunford & Malakai Sanford (Terriers), Jojo Adeyemo (Tigers) and Danny Ingrams (Wasps).
Our team got through to the quarter finals where they lost to the eventual winners Kingston LL and were thus put into the Plate competition where they progressed as far as the semi-finals before losing out to Clapham LL. Despite not reaching either Final we think the boys enjoyed the experience and their supporters also had a good day’s entertainment. It was well worth entering the team; they were a credit to out league and their managers.
A photo of 2007’s eight squad members ready to depart to the competition is shown immediately below followed by photo’s of the 2008, 2009 and 2010 squads.
